A group discussion is conducted to observe the team building ability of the participants. The word discussion is itself conveying the idea of people’s interaction with each other. This process is always about arriving at a conclusion, with the implementations of some specific skills.

The objective of the Mentor: The mentors or the organizers make people go through this session for understanding and finding some of their specific talents like team management, time management, crisis or situation management, communication skill, and analytical skill. Your professional behavior is entertained to be one of the major aspects of a GD because you come across many people with their different ideas.

Team Management Skill: The entire group discussion requires team management skills because ultimately, we need to work is the part of the team. It is absolutely important that we know the specific quality to be a team member:

Support the candidate who is not at all getting chance to speak.

Let the speaker complete his or her point. So, don’t interrupt frequently.

Appreciate other’s points of view.

Keep the method of discussion alive instead of throwing words to achieve your success in GD.

Try to speak to all the members with your positive eye contact.

There are some vital roles to play in Group Discussion:

Note Taker: Once the process is going on, it is needed to write and take some points which are being said by other candidates. If we successfully concentrate on other’s words then it is absolutely possible to present our view keeping a track to their point. Our view can be against or behalf of their statement, but if we don’t take small notes of the conveyed words by the other participants, it is absolutely impossible to revert back with any countering or supportive answer.

Facilitator: A facilitator helps to continue the smooth process of group discussion, especially, when a person doesn’t get chance to speak, the responsibility of a facilitator remains there to let the equal chance to others to speak, stopping the chaos, and bringing back a distracting topic to the required harmony again.
